What was once the
western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war
with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s
wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for
success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums,
fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may
not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

I have heard so many good things about this book. At first I
was waiting to buy this book because I knew they had changed the cover slightly
with the second book but I was lucky enough to find a reprint of the first in
hardcover. I wish they would do that with all the series that they change the
covers on. Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked. When I wait so long to read a book
I figure I might as well wait for the final book in the trilogy to come out so
I can read them all in a row if I so please. That book is being released in
November so my plan is to get the second and third one for Christmas and then
read them straight through.
I actually don’t know much about this book because I haven’t
ever read the synopsis. I fast forward through YouTube videos when they start
reading the synopsis because I like to go in to a book knowing as little as
possible. If the majority of people tell me a book is great and I should read
it then that is all I need to know.
I've also been wanting to read this one for a while, but for some reason keeps on being pushed back on my TBR list... I think I'll follow your lead and wait till the final book is out so I can read them all without worrying about cliffhangers!
