Mini Review: The Mysterious Talent Show Mystery by Tony Abbott

This is a "mini review" that covers short stories or Children’s books that don’t fit into my “Mini Monday”. These books have a shorter review but still get a star rating.

The Mysterious Talent Show Mystery by Tony Abbott
Illustrated by Colleen Madden
Goofballs, #4
Paperback, 112 pages
Published: February 26th 2013 by EgmontUSA

The Badger Point School is holding a talent show, and the Goofballs - sleuths Jeff Bunter, Mara Lubin, Kelly Smitts, and Brian Rooney - are set to be its stars. That is if the show even happens, with problems and mysteries at every turn.

A giant pink tuba goes missing, the costumes are all the wrong size, and the talent show's director disappears before the cast's eyes. Good thing that the Goofballs are expert detectives.

Funny, punny, and full of fun, this latest case in the Goofballs series will be eagerly devoured by old and new fans, alike.

Any grade school kid that likes spy stuff would have fun reading this book. When I first read that the main character carried around a notebook for clues I thought of Harriet the Spy. Thumbs up if you know who that is! I read this book very quickly but for a younger kid it would obviously take a bit longer but it was still a good length. It was a pretty good mystery to solve also. I figured out the ending but didn’t know how it would be solved until I actually got to the end.

This was the first book in the Goofballs series that I have read and I didn’t have any problems understanding anything. There were some pretty good characters, except for Brian who was pretty dumb, as in intellectually. There are some graphics in this book but I was reading it on my kindle as a review copy and only saw a few of them. They seemed to be ok though.

I recommend picking this book up if your child likes these types of stories! I might pick up the rest of the cases so I can see how the other books are.
