Rory Miller had one chance to fight back and she took it. Rory survived… and the serial killer who attacked her escaped. Now that the infamous Steven Nell is on the loose, Rory must enter the witness protection with her father and sister, Darcy, leaving their friends and family without so much as a goodbye.

Starting over in a new town with only each other is unimaginable for Rory and Darcy. They were inseparable as children, but now they can barely stand each other. As the sisters settle in to Juniper Landing, a picturesque vacation island, it seems like their new home may be just the fresh start they need. They fall in with a group of beautiful, carefree teens and spend their days surfing, partying on the beach, and hiking into endless sunsets. But just as they’re starting to feel safe again, one of their new friends goes missing. Is it a coincidence? Or is the nightmare beginning all over again?

This book will without a doubt be on my Favorites Books of 2013. It’s only January! This was a very creepy and suspenseful book and I loved every second of it. You definitely need to go pick it up!

This book was just released and I am so glad I found it at HPB.  I have never read anything by Kate Brian but I think I will be picking up others written by her. I read this book in less than 24 hours and I didn’t feel like I was struggling at any point. It had me hooked the entire time.

The suspense in this book is non-stop and I loved that. This is another book where there are chapters with different points of view. Every once in a while you get a chapter from the serial killer which is neat. I used to read romantic suspense books and I think that is one reason why I liked this book so much. There really isn’t any romance concerning the main character in this but her sister does fall pretty hard.

The start of this book just pulls you right into the action. Then when they get sent to the town of Juniper Landing, Rory figures out pretty quickly that something is not quite right with town or the people in it.

The description of the town was really good. You got the creepiness that the author was trying to portray.

The ending was awesome. I had no idea it was coming. The fact that there might be a second book is awesome too. There was a couple things that I was a little confused about though that I hope they talk about in book two. They weren’t major either.

I loved all the characters in the book, even Darcy, who was kind of a whiney bitch and the weird acting kids in the new town. The serial killer was a perfect character also. She wrote the obsessed killer well.

I recommend this book highly and I think you should go get it now.

  2. I'm usually not a fan of creepy and suspenseful novels but strangely I like the work of Kate Brian. Hope you'll like her Private and Privilege series :)
