Sixteen-year-old Allie isn’t like other girls. Instead of spending her summer break sitting around on the beach, she takes the epic vacation of a lifetime.

Tornado chasing.

And she’s not disappointed. Just a few miles from the town of Evansburg, Nebraska, Allie meets her dream of seeing a tornado. In person. She can’t wait to tell her friends back home. Never mind that her parents are going to kill her.

But her dream soon turns into a nightmare, and a strange event leaves her shocked. Confused. When she returns home to Wisconsin, something’s…different. Allie now bears a curse so awful, it could destroy everyone and everything she’s ever known.

With her best friend, Tommy, Allie must return to the plains to find a way to reverse it. She enters a world that she had never imagined, where she becomes a pawn in a fight to save the people of Evansburg from her fate…or to destroy them.

This book follows around Allie, a sixteen year old who is obsessed with storms. She has loved watching bad weather ever since she saw her first bad thunderstorm at the age of ten. She saves her money to go on a tornado watching tour with her Uncle. When the something on the trip goes horribly wrong, Allie knows something happened to her but can’t explain what. Then when helping out at an open house with her two best friends, she finds out something horrible happened that will change her life. I really liked Allie. She had so much change happen at once and she took it all in a way that I would expect someone to.

Her friend Tommy, who was probably my favorite character, takes her back to the place it all started to try and figure out what has happened to her. She finds out she is not the only one with this curse, and something far worse is about to happen if she doesn’t do something to stop it.

The story grabbed me right from the start. It is very fast paced and I had no problem getting through it in a few hours. There is action, suspense, romance, and almost constant betrayal from the one person she should be able to trust. This story has a little bit of everything! I’m a glad that romance was not a main aspect in this book either. It is definitely there but only during the times that are appropriate. It’s not a main focus. It’s not insta-love either, which is a major plus. There are hints at a possible love triangle but they never really came into play. There may be more to it in the next book.

Speaking of the next book. I will definitely be reading it! This is apparently a spin off to another series that the author has written. I didn’t know this until I started writing the review. I was never confused about anything so I think reading this without reading the Destroyer series will cause no problems. I definitely recommend it!
